What is the Grand Adventure community about?

We are a group of life loving adventure seekers! Our goal is to live life to the fullest and pay homage to those that came before us. Tradition is important to us, but so is doing things our own way!

What wax is used in your candles?

We use a variety of waxes, including parasoy blends. We find that parasoy provides the great results when it comes to longer burning times and strong scent throw. Additionally, parasoy blends are a cinch to clean up if there is an accidental spill.

What type of dyes are used?

We use a natural solvent based dye to provide vibrant color to our wax.

Do the wicks contain lead?

No! Those have been made illegal. We would never use lead based products anyway.

What should I do with the jar after I'm done?

We don't recommend refilling the jar since the glass may become weakened after the initial burn.

However, we do suggest that you get creative! You could use it to as simple coin holder, or even use it as a planter! (It's really cool to see the roots through the clear glass.)

What are some safety tips while burning my candle?

Don't burn around any flammable objects, or on any uneven surfaces.

Don't burn around children or pets as they may inadvertently knock the candle over.

Trim the wick to 1/4 inch before lighting. If there is a mushroom shaped bloom on the wick, be sure to trim it as well.

Do not burn for more than four hours in a single session.

Discontinue burning if wax is less than 1/2 inch.

How can I get the most out of my candle?

Some of these tips were mentioned in the safety section but they also help give you the best experience.
Trim the wick to 1/4 inch before burning. Also trim if there is a mushroom bloom. This will prevent/reduce the chance of any smoke or soot issues.
Keep candle away from any sort of draft or direct airflow as this may cause a light smoke.
Allow the candle to develop a full wax pool across the jar before extinguishing. Usually this occurs within an hour or two but use your own judgment since every candle is unique.
Do not burn more than 4 hours.
Use a wick snuffer tool to extinguish the flame. This also helps reduce smoke as opposed to simply blowing the candle out.

Why does the wick lean a little while burning?

This is part of the self trimming wick system that we use and it's perfectly normal! Although, the wicks are called self trimming, we still recommend maintaining your candle as mentioned above.

Another characteristic you may notice as a result of these self trimming wicks is the wax burning unevenly occasionally. This is called hangup in the candle business. This is also very normal and the wax will typically catch up as the candle continues to burn.

Where should I burn my candle?

Our 8 oz candles are designed with small to medium rooms in mind. A large room or a room with tall ceilings my not get optimal results with our 8 oz candle.

Also, rooms that are drafty may be less than optimal since the fragrance may escape the area. Airflow will also slightly impact the way a candle burns. The main issue being soot. So be sure to keep this in mind while burning.

We have plans for larger double wicked candles in the future. We're just getting started!
